Moving House Checklist
If your moving house then you will have a thousand and one different things on your mind and chances are you will be extremely stress out. If you not stressed yet you soon will be. One great way keeping things under control is to create a moving house checklist. A checklist for moving house will keep you on task and make sure you do not miss anything important. So what should you place on your moving house checklist? We have conveniently broken this up into two sections. Things you should do about two weeks before you leave and things you should do about two days before you move.
Two Week House Move Checklist:
- Organise with your friends and family to help take care of your children and any pets you may have.
- If your moving a long distance make sure you confirm your travel arrangements.
- Defrost your fridge and freezer so they are ready to move. It can be a good idea keep the doors open to prevent mould.
- Cancel any subscriptions such as newspapers and magazines.
- Notify your change of address at the post office so that they can ‘forward your mail’ to your new address.
- If moving overseas: close bank accounts and transfer funds to your new account, make copies of important documents, and cancel all automatic payments (such as gym memberships, etc).
- Get rid of anything you didn’t sell at your ‘moving sale’.
- Return all borrowed items such as library books and DVDs.
- Get together a whole lot of important items needed for your ‘travel bag’. This can include things like you credit cards, personal phone books and address, medication, a change of clothes, and you toiletries.
Two Days House Move Checklist:
- Finish packing up the last of your boxes (unless the moving company is doing this form you).
- Make certain you have enough cash and/or travellers checks for your trip.
- Call the moving company to confirm the arrival times of your belongings.
- If your moving furniture yourself, start to dismantle the larger pieces (such as beds, etc).
